“Working with Nissa has had a truly amazing impact on our family. Our young daughter experienced a severe trauma and developed a tic in the form of a head nod. After trying several options, we were referred to Nissa for Reiki treatment and massage. Nissa creates a warm and caring environment and our daughter responded immediately to her. We noticed results right away – our daughter was more relaxed and the tic became less noticeable, until it all but disappeared. We were so pleased with the healing that we as a family decided to learn more about Reiki. Nissa has been a wonderful mentor and instructor – very knowledgeable, patient and flexible with our schedule. We cannot thank Nissa enough for the positive energy she has brought into our lives and would highly recommend her to family and friends who are seeking to improve their health and well being.”

Massage Therapy consists primarily of hands on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health.
Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and well being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of massage therapy.
Modern massage techniques can be traced back to the 1700's and the development of Swedish massage, the first systematic method of therapeutic massage based on physiology. Today's massage therapists use their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to combine traditional Swedish and modern massage therapy techniques with exercise and other therapies to treat their clients.
Your massage session begins with an interview during which you share your medical history, current health condition and goals or intention for treatment. Nissa will ask about previous injuries, surgeries, traumatic or stressful events that happened to you.
The interview is followed by a postural evaluation, assessment and therapeutic tests to help create a treatment plan. Any personal and health information you provide to your massage therapist is completely confidential and will be safeguarded. Your health record cannot be released or transferred without your written consent.
Nissa must also obtain your consent to work on any part of your body, regardless of whether you are fully clothed, or fully or partially covered with sheets or blankets. Your privacy will always be respected, and you may withdraw your consent for treatment at any time.
Various specialized movement of the hands, over the skin or clothes, make up the massage therapy treatment. Nissa will work with your level of pain tolerance during the treatment, and the treatment can be stopped at any time should you become uncomfortable. Nissa incorporates many treatment modalities depending on your needs. Some of these therapies include Swedish massage (light to deep), advanced trigger point therapy, muscle energy, cranial sacral therapy, myofascial release, deep tissue, sports massage, Reiki, neuromuscular therapy, and manual lymph drainage.

Myofascial Release (MFR) treats connective tissue also known as fascia. Fascia is a continuous web-like tissue that surrounds and interconnects every structure in your body. Fascia is three dimensional and is uninterrupted from head to toe. Myofascial release consists of gentle, sustained pressure and stretch of myofscial restrictions for 3-5 minutes, sometimes longer, until a release is felt. As restrictions are released, movement is restored.
Advanced Trigger Point Therapy A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may produce referral pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache. Trigger point massage therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage for trigger point therapy, the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort.
The results and benefits of trigger point massage are releasing constricted areas in the muscles thus alleviating pain.
Deep Connective Tissue Massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using slow, firm strokes and deep pressure. It is traditionally used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. Whether you are in chronic pain or have specific areas of tension you need relieved, deep tissue massage can be very effective. The depth and pressure of the work is always kept within your tolerance.
Muscle Energy is a direct pain free manipulative procedure that uses a voluntary contraction of the patient’s muscles against a distinctly controlled counter-force from a precise position and in a specific direction.
Scapular Stretch and Rotator Cuff Release blends a number of modalities and applies them specifically to the neck, shoulder girdle, and upper extremity. This technique has relieved frozen shoulder, cervical nerve compression, tendonitis, and thoracic outlet syndrome.
Cranialsacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, is used to release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a type of gentle massage which is intended to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart.
Acupressure is a therapy developed over 5,000 years ago as an important aspect of Asian medicine. It uses precise finger placement and pressure over specific points along the body. These points follow specific channels, known as meridians - the same channels used in acupuncture. Activation of these points with pressure can improve blood flow, release tension, and enhance or unblock life-energy, known to the Chinese as chi or qi. Hindus call it prana. Greeks know it as pneuma. Japanese refer to it as ki. This release allows energy to flow more freely through the meridians, promoting relaxation, healing and the restoration of proper function.
